Mendy sends message to Chelsea teammates ahead of West Ham clash

Edouard Mendy has urged his Chelsea teammates to bounce back after two consecutive defeats against Everton and Wolves.

The disappointing result at Goodison Park was a bitter end to their 17-game unbeaten run in all competitions, but the following loss against Wolves must have been a big hit to Chelsea’s confidence.

Particularly considering they dominated the possession in both games but couldn’t really capitalise on it.

Mendy has now issued a rallying cry to his teammates ahead of Monday’s London derby against West Ham.

The goalkeeper wrote on Instagram: “Let’s continue to work hard and get back to our early season results.”

But apparently, Mendy doesn’t only work hard on the training pitch, as he is also studying English to help him communicate during matches.

“I asked people to help me with the vocabulary used out on the pitch,” he told Chelsea’s official website.

“Everything that I need to help the team. So I picked that up quickly. Now I’m working on everyday English, so that I can have a full conversation with people without a problem.

“That’s more what I’m focusing on now, but the on-pitch vocabulary came much quicker.

“‘Man on’, ‘turn’ and ‘time’ are the first things I learned, then it was things like ‘away’ and ‘keeper’.”
