Fabrizio Romano reported that Thiago Silva would be the next Chelsea member to follow in Thomas Tuchel’s footsteps and have his deal extended.
It was announced today that Tuchel had been awarded an extra two years on his current 18-month agreement.
He lifted Chelsea from ninth to fourth in the Premier League, guided them to an FA Cup final and masterminded a Champions League victory.
Having tucked Tuchel away until 2024, focus can now be diverted towards tying down several key members of his squad.
Starting with Silva, whose additional stay until 2022 is ‘already done and completed’ according to Romano.
The Brazilian joined last summer from Paris Saint-Germain on a free. He has since been an excellent addition to Chelsea’s defence and dressing room.
Despite his 37th birthday fast approaching, Silva looks spritely as ever, with the desire to continue his journey for a little while longer.
Securing Tuchel and potentially the experienced defender is great news.
However, Marina Granovskaia will still have her work cut out in terms of locking players down.
Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Cesar Azpilicueta all have 12 months left on their contracts.
N’Golo Kante is fixed until 2023, yet Romano explained discussions over a fresh deal are also set to take place very soon.
