Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has sent a message to Mason Mount ahead of his potential midfield battle with West Ham United’s Declan Rice.

Chelsea will face the East London outfit today and will certainly be looking to make it four wins out of four games since the Premier League restart.

They will also have the chance to restore a five-point cushion over Manchester United and Wolverhampton who are now just two points away after winning their last matches.

In the reverse fixture, Lampard’s men were defeated 1-0 at Stamford Bridge as they failed to convert their dominant possession.

Among David Moyes’ squad, Rice has been one particular outstanding player this season.

The England international is close friends with Mount, and ahead of the game, Lampard has had a request for his ace ahead of the game.

He told Chelsea’s official website: “They (Rice and Mount) are two very good young players.

“The only thing I ask from Mason from my point of view is that he texts him tonight and smiles at him in the tunnel or wherever it is, but if and when they go up against each other he has to try and beat him in every individual battle that he possibly can.

“And sensing Declan Rice’s character, I think they’ll both be like-minded on that one.”

“I think it spurs you on more if you have a personal relationship in either way, whether you’re best friends and don’t even like each other.”
