Pat Nevin says losing Willian and Pedro won't cause much trouble for Lampard

Chelsea legend Pat Nevin has said the Blues do not need to worry if two veteran wingers Willian and Pedro leaves in the summer.

The wingers, along with Olivier Giroud, Willy Caballero, and Marco van Ginkel, have entered the final months of their contracts.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has had to rely on Pedro and Willian this season as the two younger options Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi have been struggling with injuries.

Pedro has had nine appearances in the Premier League so far, and out of the 29 games Chelsea have played, Willian featured in all except one of them.

However, former Chelsea winger Nevin losing them will not cause much trouble for Lampard.

He told West London Sport: “Pedro is definitely going as far as I understand.

“There is a question mark with Willian but will it something that Chelsea fans will be overly worrying about? No.

“Pulisic is coming on, Callum is there and they won’t always play with wingers anyway because Frank plays with a 4-3-3.”

Lampard has indeed played Mason Mount, who is predominantly a centre midfielder, on the flank.

Also, the incoming arrival of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax Amsterdam will give Lampard more options on the flanks.

Nevin also commented on Chelsea’s financial situation, saying: “I have a suspicion and a feeling that Chelsea will be ok.”

He added that even if Chelsea cannot spend big in the summer, the current young talents will grow and Chelsea can just “carry on”.
