Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised Chelsea’s midfield after 2-1 Premier League loss at Stamford Bridge on Thursday.
The three points are huge for Frank Lampard’s men as they restored a five-point cushion over Manchester United and Wolverhampton, in fifth and sixth, respectively.
The Chelsea manager tweaked his plan, learning from the loss in reverse fixture back in November.
And Guardiola saw has praised Chelsea’s patience and singled out Lampard’s energetic midfield three; N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount and Ross Barkley.
He told Goal: “It was tight in both games [against Chelsea this season].
“When we won 2-1 at home, they were more aggressive up front and here, they were more patient and waited for their counterattacks.”
“They have incredible players in the middle and players who can run. So, yes, they did well and congratulations to Chelsea for the victory” he said.
The former Barcelona tactician also highlighted the big names such as Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Pedro Rodriguez and Kurt Zouma on Chelsea’s bench.
“So, they have incredible guys in their squad, too, and then they have extra talent with Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech coming in this summer,” he added.
“That shows the [competitiveness] of the Premier League.”
The Blues now turn their attention to the FA Cup as they are going to face Leicester City in the quarterfinal tie this Sunday, June 28.
