Todd Boehly might want to retract his bid to become the new Chelsea owner after witnessing last night’s shambles against Arsenal.
Thomas Tuchel’s men didn’t give any of the buyers much reason for optimism following their fragile 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Gunners.
What happened between Chelsea and Arsenal?
Andreas Christensen’s sloppy back pass that provided an inadvertent assist for Eddie Nketiah pretty much set the tone for the whole evening.
Timo Werner’s fourth goal in as many games brought the Blues back into the contest, only to allow Arsenal an instant reply through Emile Smith Rowe.
Chelsea responded almost straight away again via the boot of Cesar Azpilicueta, but they couldn’t hold their guests for very long.
Some more questionable defending pretty much gift-wrapped Nketiah’s second goal, which can also be said for Bukayo Saka’s late penalty.
The England international was pretty much wrestled to the floor by Azpilicueta inside the area, a crazy move from a player built upon such experience.
Saka slotted his effort past Edouard Mendy, topping off a fantastic day out for those travelling Arsenal fans.
Their wild emotions were not replicated in the faces of the Chelsea season-ticket holders, who witnessed a third straight loss at Stamford Bridge for the first time since 1993.
Boehly has got the blues
One supporter who will have been taking more notes than many may decide never to return to the ground again.
Boehly was pictured entering the stadium yesterday, hoping to see his potential new team pull out a performance to remember.
It was certainly not one to forget, put it that way.
But it feels too late for the American to remove himself from the race now, considering final offers for Roman Abramovich’s empire were submitted last Friday.
The identity of Abramovich’s replacement should be announced by the end of the month.
Then Tuchel and his troop will find out what changes are going to occur around the club.
