Pundit Jamie Redknapp has praised Mason Mount as he believes the Chelsea midfielder has been so important for the football Frank Lampard has tried to implement.
Lampard will have more attacking options at his disposal next season with the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner coming in.
This season, however, it has always about Mount, according to Redknapp.
He told Sky Sports (via Daily Express): “He’s been exceptional, for such a young man.
“What I like most about him is that he starts the press. He’s always the one that, when the ball gets played into midfield or around the back four, he goes and closes down.
“It’s so important for the rest of the team and you can see they all react off it.
“He is vitally important to what Chelsea do. He is all energy, a great football brain and I’ve been so impressed this season.
“He can play as a No 10, he can play off the side, he’s got goals in his game now.”
Redknapp also believes that the England international has been training his free-kicks and said it’s important for teams that the midfielders pose those goalscoring threats from outside the box.
“Everything I hear about him is that he’s a spot-on trainer every day and he deserves all the accolades he’s getting right now,” he added.
Mount played the third-most minutes in the Premier League this season at Chelsea, just below captain Cesar Azpilicueta and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
He played in multiple positions such as winger, centre midfielder and as N0.10, and bagged seven goals and five assists in the league.
