Reece James reacts to Joe Edwards' Chelsea departure

Chelsea star Reece James has sent Joe Edwards, who is leaving Thomas Tuchel’s coaching staff to join Frank Lampard’s at Everton, a farewell message.

The Blues announced Edwards’ departure after 27 years at the club on Monday, shortly after Everton announced Lampard as their new manager.

The club, via their official website, also confirmed that they will not bring in a replacement coach, at least for now.

The 35-year-old was the development head coach at Chelsea before earning promotion to assistant coach for the first team following the appointment of Lampard as the manager in summer 2019.

Having already worked with several academy graduates, he certainly had a big impact on helping these young players adapt to the senior squad under Lampard.

Among them is James who has sent Edwards a message on social media.

“Good luck, Joe,” the England international wrote on an Instagram story.

“I wish you nothing but the best.

“You helped me in so many positive ways all the way through the academy into the first team.

“Forever thankful.”

An earlier report from The Telegraph claims that Lampard was also keen on bringing another Chelsea coach, Anthony Barry, into his coaching team.

However, despite reported positive talks, Barry eventually decided to stay at Chelsea.

Another report from the Evening Standard mentioned that another Blues icon, Ashley Cole, might leave his coaching role at Chelsea to join Lampard at Everton.
