Chelsea starlet Trevoh Chalobah is currently the best centre-back on the continent.

Not officially our own words (although we do agree), but a declaration made by the data gurus at

According to the statistical geniuses over at HQ, Chalobah has earned the highest average rating of any centre-back across Europe’s Top five leagues this season.

Medal places

The podium places have been taken by the Stamford Bridge golden boy himself, Arsenal loanee Konstantinos Mavropanos and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Shane Duffy.

Perhaps a slightly surprising selection, considering the quality of defender situated in the Premier League, let alone across the globe.

But the stats do not lie.

Plus, Chalobah has earned such a prestigious title thanks to his mature and often magnificent performances since becoming a first-team regular with his boyhood club.

The 22-year-old is already on ten appearances across all competitions for the term, starting in the last three league games, conceding just once.

He has also scored twice, his very first goals as a senior member of Chelsea’s gang.

Chalobah continues to shine

Coming from life as loanee to the very forefront of Thomas Tuchel’s thinking in such a short space of time highlight’s the defender’s doubtless quality.

“To see what he’s doing now isn’t a surprise in the slightest,” said Cole Skuse, Chalobah’s former Ipswich Town teammate.

“You could see from an athletic standpoint he had a real presence but his understanding and technical ability even then was remarkable.”

Remarkable is quite fitting word for Chalobah’s rise from academy graduate, to part-timer out on the road, to a starter for the Champions League holders.

Long may this upward trajectory continue.

Chelsea are certainly hoping to keep up his momentum by reportedly offering him a long-term deal and possible pay rise.

Just reward for Chalobah’s ascent on the summit of footballing greatness.
