Report: 22-year-old Chelsea player shocked Tuchel isn't picking him to start after private meeting
Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah has found it a big surprise to see himself overlooked for so many games recently.
Chalobah, 22, has enjoyed a strong debut season in the Blues first team, turning into the latest talented youngster to come through the academy at Cobham.
The defender’s made 27 appearances across all competitions this campaign, but his game time has been restricted in the last couple of months.
According to The Athletic, Chalobah sat down for a private meeting after the March international break with one of Thomas Tuchel’s assistants to discuss his game.
The report explains he didn’t take the feedback as a negative and has continued to train well, so is a bit shocked that Blues manager Tuchel has left him out in so many matches since.
Chalobah’s played in one of six Premier League fixtures since the international break, which was a 1-0 home win against West Ham.
The Chelsea youngster has hit a minor bump in the road, but it’s nothing to be overly concerned about.
Overall, Chalobah’s exceeded everyone’s expectation this season.
The quick centre-back has turned out to be an important member of the Blues squad, something which didn’t seem likely if you look back to pre-season.
He’s been taken out of the firing line after a couple of individual errors, which seems like smart man-management from Tuchel.
There’s no doubt he will be particularly important next year with defenders ahead for the exit doors, though.
