Report: 31-year-old Arsenal could be about to make first start in two months against Chelsea tonight

Reports have claimed that Arsenal midfielder Jorginho could be set to start against Chelsea at the Emirates tonight.

According to the Evening Standard, the Italian is pushing to face his former side in the London derby this evening.

It would be the first time that Jorginho will have faced the side that he achieved so much success with over the past few years.

Highlights include victory in both European competitions, which set him up for personal glory as the UEFA player of the year in 2021.

However, it became apparent that he would not be extending his contract at Stamford Bridge beyond this summer, when he would be able to leave on a free.

With N’golo Kante potentially set to suffer the same fate, the club felt as if they couldn’t lose both figures for no money.

Jorginho could start against Chelsea

Arsenal’s bid was quickly accepted, as they turned their attentions to the club-record signing of Enzo Fernandez to replace him.

While the Gunners still sit comfortably clear of the majority of the league, they have gone off the ball in recent weeks in terms of mounting a title challenge.

Their defeat to Manchester City last week brought about questions regarding a number of the players who had been near ever-presents in the team.

This could see Mikel Arteta look to his bench, and potentially hand Jorginho his first start since the 1^st of March.

A miserable season for Chelsea supporters will only be compounded more by a strong showing from their former star against them.

While there is not too much distain that he is now gone, poor performances in recent weeks have exposed that there is still not a perfect partner for Fernandez at the club right now.
