Andreas Christensen has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge this season. The Danish centre-back has not played in the Premier League for some weeks and is clearly not favoured by Lampard.
Sky Sports have now reported that AC Milan are considering making a move for the Chelsea man. The Italian club are keen to bolster their defence this month after a disappointing start to the season. They are currently sat 12th in Serie A with a goal difference of minus eight.
Christensen is seen as a long term solution to the clubs’ defensive woes and they are hoping to strike a deal in the coming weeks. It is reported that their preference would be a loan deal with an option to buy if the move proves to be a success.
Chelsea currently have three centre-backs ahead of Christensen in the pecking order. Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori, and Antonio Rudiger are all more preferable choices for Lampard. The Dane may seek a move elsewhere to secure regular first-team action.
Losing Christensen would, however, leave the Blues thin on the ground at the back. One injury could cause Lampard real problems, especially if he continues to utilise the 3-4-3 formation.
The Blues will want to keep hold of the 23-year-old unless they sign another defender in the January window. He is still young and will improve both physically and tactically. There is no need to sell Christensen and Chelsea should only sanction the move if he is desperate to go.
