Chelsea were reportedly hopeful a takeover could be completed by the next time the team play, something which is now rated as “highly unlikely”.

According to GOAL, the Blues were keen for the new ownership to buy the club before the Premier League match at home to Brentford on 2 April.

However, the report expects the takeover saga to run a while longer yet and beyond the current international break.

It is explained successful bids will now be further examined with more extensive background checks. Afterwards, Chelsea’s board will make a decision on the new owners under the advise of the Raine Group, who are the US bank overseeing the sale.

Goal’s report names Todd Boehly’s consortium and a group that includes Sir Michael Broughton as two potential investors to make the final shortlist, something commonly reported across various publications.

Also, it adds the highly unpopular Ricketts family is expected to progress to the next stage of the process.

Chelsea players can block out distraction

In fairness, this Blues squad and coaching staff has shown tremendous character in the last few weeks to keep working at their very best during unprecedented circumstances.

It sounds like the takeover story will still be ongoing at the beginning of April when domestic football returns.

It’s an absolutely vital run of games for Thomas Tuchel’s side, which includes massive matches in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

Of course, it would be great if one of the front runners to buy the club can complete a deal quickly. This group will stick together no matter what, though.
