Chelsea staff reportedly think David Datro Fofana is already better than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in most areas.

Fofana, who joined the Blues last month, is a young striker who’s been a regular in the Premier League matchday squad recently.

The 20-year-old had made just a few appearances so far in Chelsea colours, but the fact he’s getting chances under Graham Potter is quite telling given the size of the squad.

As for Aubameyang, he can’t get a sniff right now of action.

The 33-year-old is an experienced striker that should feel he can inject goals to an attack that is really struggling on the pitch, but Potter continues to overlook him for his squad.

According to The Athletic, Potter does like to rely on data from Chelsea’s recruitment analyst Kyle Macaulay.

The report says that Fofana is considered superior to Aubameyang in most important metrics, so it’s the youngster that is higher in the striker pecking order right now.

Kai Havertz is the usual option to start in the No.9 position. We expect him to lead the line in this weekend’s important game against Tottenham in the Premier League.

It’s definitely not the time to put too much pressure on Fofana, who played just 65 senior games for Malmo before his move to West London. Incidentally, the forward scored 24 times in his Malmo career.

There’s definitely a lot of intrigue that Fofana is already rated higher than Aubameyang by Blues staff, though.

The Ivory Coast youngster definitely has the pace and physicality that immediately catches your eye, albeit he’s still a raw talent learning his trade.

Many will argue that Chelsea needs a more experienced finisher like Aubameyang right now.
