Report: Chelsea youngster Tariq Lamptey could be on his way out
Chelsea are reportedly in danger of losing Tariq Lamptey this summer. RMC Sport state that PSG and Nice are in talks with the teenager, whose current contract runs out at the end of this season.
The 19-year-old has just begun to make his way into Lampard’s first-team plans at Stamford Bridge. His Premier League debut against Arsenal was a hugely successful one and it is clear to see what a promising youngster Lamptey is.
The Blues will certainly not want to lose the 19-year-old but could find it hard to prevent his exit. The fact that he only has a few months left on his current deal means that he is permitted to hold talks with other clubs around Europe. Pre-contract agreements can be made and Lamptey may be tempted if first-team football is promised.
This is something Chelsea simply cannot offer. Reece James is putting in consistent sublime performances at right-back and has made the position his own in recent weeks. He is just one year older than Lamptey and could limit his chances for the next 10 years.
It seems unlikely that the 19-year-old will start for Chelsea anytime soon. He would be a strong understudy for James, but may not be satisfied with that. If the club can convince him to sign a new deal, they should do everything in their power to do so.
His speed, maturity, and quality of pass make him a great full-back option to have. There is also a small possibility that he could follow in Azpilicueta’s footsteps and become capable on either side of the defence, which would hugely benefit the Blues.
