Report: Could Timo Werner be free to leave as club eye replacement

Timo Werner is the name on many Chelsea fan’s lips. He has been on fire this season for RB Leipzig, and there are several reasons why making a move for the German international makes sense. It seems that Leipzig are now preparing for life without Werner, as they make a move for a replacement.

The Mirror has reported that RB Leipzig have made an official offer for RB Salzburg striker Erling Braut Haaland. This could be big news for Chelsea because if this transfer were to go through, Werner’s starting spot would be in serious doubt.

Salzburg are hoping that their links with Leipzig will aid them in their pursuit of Haaland. They have already held initial meetings with the Norwegian, but he is now weighing up his options.

Chelsea will be hoping this transfer goes through quickly, so they can progress in their pursuit of Werner. The 23-year-old is reportedly on a six-man attacking shortlist for the Blues which also includes Wilfried Zaha and Leon Bailey (The Telegraph).

Werner has scored an impressive 16 goals in just 15 Bundesliga appearances this season and is proving himself to be one of the most deadly strikers in Europe. If Chelsea were to pull off the deal, their attacking prowess would go up dramatically.

The German could play either side of Tammy Abraham in a front three, or even with him in a two if Lampard were to rethink his formation.
