Edouard Mendy is reportedly optimistic he’ll be out for only two weeks following the thigh injury he sustained during training on international duty with Senegal.
Chelsea have confirmed the 28-year-old goalkeeper has returned to the club to undergo further medical examination.
Mendy initially made the Senegal squad for tonight’s friendly against Morocco and another on Tuesday against Mauritania but was forced to withdraw after sustaining an injury to his right thigh.
And, according to a report from The Athletic, Mendy will almost certainly have to miss out on Chelsea’s Premier League fixture on 17 October.

The report added that despite early indications suggesting it was a thigh problem, it could actually be a hamstring strain.
Mendy reportedly hopes he could be back for the Champions League group match against Sevilla on 20 October, although the report added Chelsea want to carry out their own tests before setting a comeback date.

This is certainly a blow for the Blues who have only just grabbed their first Premier League clean sheet this season – the 4-0 win against Crystal Palace – with Mendy in goal.
Kepa Arrizabalaga’s recent performance for Spain against Portugal may convince Frank Lampard to give him another chance in goal, although based on the games prior to Mendy’s arrival Willy Caballero could be ahead of him in the pecking order.
