Report: How Granovskaia and Buck are reacting to new sanctions imposed on Chelsea, names the club's 'biggest fear'

Chelsea’s board are reportedly set to hold an “emergency meeting” in the aftermath of sanctions imposed on both the club and its owner Roman Abramovich.

According to The Sun, the Blues hierarchy will sit down for discussions in the wake of Thursday’s breaking news that saw Abramovich’s assets frozen by the UK government.

The report states chairman Bruce Buck will chair the meeting, while well-known club director Marina Granovskaia will also be present. In addition, Guy Laurence, Eugene Tenenbaum and David Barnard will be attending.

It is explained the “biggest fear” for Chelsea’s board is around the reduced revenue streams that will come from numerous restrictions on the club. There are even concerns of administration due to a lack of sales from tickets and merchandise.

The special licence given to Chelsea means they can continue playing. However, transfers in and out of Stamford Bridge are banned, plus extending contracts of existing members of the squad.

A lot now surely boils down to whether or not a new owner can buy the club from Abramovich. He may reportedly be able to sell the club after an application to the UK government is made, but the Russian businessman can’t make any profit from the transaction.

Chelsea players can’t avoid noise

There is absolutely no way a member of the Blues squad can ignore everything that’s happening off the pitch.

Chelsea players should be focused on upcoming games that are still planned to go ahead, but their futures may be impacted by what’s going on.

Also, the same goes for the coaching staff. Jamie Carragher has even suggested Manchester United try a sneaky move to try steal manager Thomas Tuchel for next season.
