Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is unsure about how he fits into Graham Potter’s plans amid uncertainty over his future at Stamford Bridge.
As it stands, Mount has started more Premier League games than any other Chelsea player this season.
So, it is clear that he plays a key role in the team.
Joao Felix’s arrival, however, seems to have changed Mount’s situation at Stamford Bridge quite a bit.
Felix is now the first choice in the number 10 role. Mount is versatile and can play different positions, but he and Felix share a lot of similar responsibilities on the pitch.
Potter rarely plays a three-man midfield set-up, so using Mount in his favourite number eight role does not seem to be a viable solution.
According to Jones, the lack of clarity over Mount’s role under Potter has become a problem.

“One thing you can say is that Mount’s issue with Chelsea is, he’s not sure how he fits in right now,” the journalist told GiveMeSport.
“And I don’t think he’s entirely sure what Graham Potter’s plan is either.
“That’s my reading of the situation from people I speak to. And that’s part of the concern over why he hasn’t signed a new contract.”
If Chelsea sign Felix permanently this summer, Mount’s exit will likely become more appealing for both the club and the player himself.
Obviously, many Chelsea fans, including the Stamford Bridge crowd who displayed a crowd-surfer banner in support of the Mount last Saturday, would like to see the midfielder pen a new long-term contract with the club.
However, neither Mount nor Felix would want to play second fiddle to each other. So, unless Potter finds a system that suits both, it is difficult to see the pair thrive in the same team.
