Report: Michy Batshuayi attracting interest from Aston Villa
Michy Batshuayi is attracting interest from Premier League rivals Aston Villa, according to reports in Foot Mercato. The Belgian striker has found opportunities hard to come by this season, with Tammy Abraham establishing himself as the Blues’s main man upfront.
He has made just two starting appearances for Chelsea this season, and another 16 off the bench. In those games, his goalscoring record is far from horrific, however. The ‘Batsman’ has scored three goals in his two starts and bagged another two when appearing from the bench.
Despite this, Lampard does not seem to trust the 26-year-old. He can be frustrating to watch and is not considered as a suitable understudy for Abraham.
Since moving to Chelsea from Marseille in 2016, Batshuayi has made 71 appearances and scored 24 goals. He clearly knows where the goal is and would be a good addition for a side struggling for goals.
But can Chelsea afford to sell?
Chelsea have made it clear that they are looking for a new striker. Several names have been mentioned to provide back-up for Abraham, but there is one important thing to consider. You are unlikely to be able to sign a top striker who is happy to sit on the bench for much of the season.
Batshuayi seems content at Chelsea despite his lack of minutes. Despite his undeniable talent, a player like Timo Werner may not show the same patience. Lampard should consider carefully whether getting rid of Batshuayi is the right choice.
