The Ricketts family will reportedly make their way over to the English capital as they attempt to acquire the rights to Chelsea.
According to The Athletic, the Chicago Cubs owners are going to be in London sometime this week for further discussions about replacing Roman Abramovich.
This update arrives alongside the eight-point plan that the Ricketts family published yesterday, in an attempt to win over the fan base that very much oppose their bid.
Part of their strategy included making a promise never to join the European Super League, exploring options to redevelop Stamford Bridge and committing to the women’s team.
All things that supporters clearly want to hear, but not necessarily from the mouth of the American-led consortium.
Why don’t Chelsea fans want the Ricketts family?
Chelsea followers have made their feelings extremely clear about the club being run by the Ricketts family.
The #notoRicketts campaign has gained some ground on social media, a direct attack on ugly comments made by Joe Ricketts a few years back, the father of the household.
A petition to stop the Ricketts family from buying the Blues had apparently reached over 20,000 signatures by Saturday, the same day a protest against the possible takeover was staged outside Stamford Bridge.
But whilst the requirements of the fans will play some part in the selling process, unfortunately they do not have the final say.
That pleasure goes to the Premier League and the UK government.
They must decide between the four candidates shortlisted by the Raine Group, the merchant bank dealing with the process.
Alongside the Ricketts family in the running are Sir Martin Broughton, Todd Boehly and Stephen Pagliuca.
Broughton has Crystal Palace shareholders Josh Harris and David Blitzer in his corner, whilst Boehly is being backed by Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss and property developer Jonathan Goldstein.
The identity of Paglicua’s consortium hasn’t emerged but should do so if he becomes Abramovich’s successor.
