Sir Martin Broughton will likely be the new Chelsea chairman to replace Bruce Buck if his consortium’s bid is successful, according to The Telegraph.

Broughton and Lord Sebastian Coe are both Chelsea supporters, and it is hardly a surprise if they would be in line for leading roles at the club if their consortium bid won.

The former would be appointed the new chairman, The Telegraph claims, while Lord Coe would fill a spot on the club board.

However, despite their being the faces of the consortium, they are reportedly not the major financiers of the bid, similar to Vivek Ranadive, who is said to be another minor investor.

Instead, the two primary financiers are Josh Harris and David Blitzer who are worth £4.5billion and £1bn, respectively, as the report suggests.

Harris and Blitzer have been partners for at least more than a decade. They co-own basketball team the 76ers, who they bought in 2011.

They are also shareholders in Crystal Palace, which may prove problematic in a possible Chelsea takeover.

The pair will first have to sell their 18 percent stake in the south London team to pass the Premier League owners’ and directors’ test.

There may be other investors in the consortium, which is expected to be made public soon since Broughton previously promised that there would be “no hiding of any of the players”.

Their consortium is reportedly one of the two confirmed groups who have made it to the next stage of the sale after being chosen by New York-based merchant bank Raine Group, alongside LA Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly-led consortium.
