Graham Potter has annoyed some players in the Chelsea dressing room by not starting Mason Mount regularly, according to reports.

The Independent claims that Mount, 24, is a popular member of the squad at Stamford Bridge.

It is understood that some Chelsea figures are not pleased that Mount’s game time has dropped significantly recently, starting just one of the last five games across all competitions.

The report explains that the view is Potter is taking the easy solution by leaving out the quieter Mount, who is less likely to kick up a fuss.

It doesn’t sit well with certain members of the group dropping the England international, though.

Mason Mount form

Mount, who’s been one of Chelsea’s best players in the previous two seasons, is having a challenging campaign. You could say the same for most of the squad, though.

The attacking midfielder did get plenty of opportunities in the early months of Potter’s reign, but he’s fallen out of favour with the head coach recently.

He’s unavailable through suspension for tonight’s Champions League tie with Borussia Dortmund. He missed the weekend victory against Leeds with an abdomen problem, too.

His return of three goals and six assists so far this season is a little underwhelming for someone with his attacking quality.

We think Potter is well within his right to pull Mount out of the XI recently. Moreover, he’s got the impossible job of trying to keep so many first-team stars happy.

He’s still made the second most appearances at Chelsea this season (32) so clearly plays an important role, but he’s been in the unfamiliar position of sitting on the bench quite a lot in the past month.

Hopefully, this is good man-management and it can lead to Mount rediscovering his form.

As for Chelsea’s players, you can definitely understand their loyalty to someone who has been such a key cog in the squad in the last few years.
