Frank Lampard has emerged as a potential contender to make a return to Chelsea, according to reports.

TalkSPORT claims on its live blog (10:08am 5 April) that Frank Lampard may be an option to return to Stamford Bridge on a short-term basis.

They claim that both Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have held provisional talks over becoming the next Blues manager, but they both would rather wait and join in the summer.

The report adds that Lampard’s presence in the Stamford Bridge stands at Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool has sparked an idea from the club’s owners.

Apparently, Todd Boehly and the rest of the Blues hierarchy now have the idea of bringing the 44-year-old back on a short-term deal to manage the team.

Nagelsmann and Enrique are two available managers strongly linked with becoming Graham Potter’s successor at Chelsea.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims on Twitter that Chelsea will speak again with Nagelsmann today about becoming the next Blues manager. Meanwhile, The Independent reports that Enrique is flying into London for more discussions with Chelsea about taking charge in the manager’s dugout.

If the aforementioned duo don’t want the job until the summer, it does leave the Blues hierarchy in a tough situation.

Bruno Saltor stepped in as Chelsea’s interim boss last night against Liverpool, but is fresh into management at the top level. It would be a gigantic ask for him to lead the side in the Champions League quarter-finals against Real Madrid.

Many Chelsea fans will need to check twice to believe the Lampard rumours, but don’t rule anything out with this chaotic club.

His legacy as one of the club’s best ever players is truly cemented. However, his previous 18-month spell as the Chelsea manager ended in real disappointment. He was sacked by Everton back in January, too!

The English icon led Chelsea to an FA Cup final and Champions League qualification in his first season, but was eventually replaced by Thomas Tuchel midway through his second campaign. That was the same season Chelsea went on and lifted the Champions League trophy.

It would be one hell of a story if Lampard was appointed on a temporary basis.

If the club can’t get one of their main targets, would you rather have him or Bruno until the end of the season?
