Chelsea co-owner and chairman Todd Boehly is personally handling Mason Mount’s proposed new seven-year contract, according to the Evening Standard.
Mount’s current deal, which puts him among the lowest-earning players at Chelsea, expires in the summer of 2024, and negotiations are reportedly ongoing between the two parties over a new long-term contract.
The Evening Standard claims that the 24-year-old wants a similar salary to his friends in the England team, but Boehly, who is in charge of the negotiations, is reluctant to offer him such terms.
Instead, Chelsea reportedly pointed to the deals they offered to recent January signings, which are reportedly worth around £70,000-a-week on average.

If the two parties do not reach an agreement by this summer, Liverpool and other “Big Six” clubs are ready to make a move for the versatile midfielder in the summer.
This is quite a difficult decision to make for Chelsea.
Mount’s form this season has been underwhelming, but he was also the team’s consecutive player of the season in the past two seasons.
Graham Potter also clearly still trusts the England international, who has had more Premier League starts (19) than any other Chelsea player this season.
While Chelsea understandably want to offer Mount a deal in line with the recently-acquired players’, Reece James’ becoming the highest-paid defender in the club’s history after signing a new deal less than six months ago arguably helps the midfielder’s case in the negotiations.
Mateo Kovacic, whose contract also expires in less than 18 months, is in a similar situation.
However, there has reportedly been no contact between Chelsea and the Croatia international over a new deal.
This is also the case for Conor Gallagher, whose deal expires in the summer of 2025.
Both Kovacic and Gallagher have been linked with Chelsea summer exits.
