Report: Todd Boehly really wants 43-year-old as Chelsea's next sporting director now
Todd Boehly reportedly wants Michael Edwards to become Chelsea’s next sporting director.
It is understood that there will be competition to recruit him, though.
In addition, the report explains that he may be keen to take a break from football after leaving his successful role at Liverpool.
Edwards has departed Anfield at the end of last season after playing a key role for Liverpool in recent years as their sporting director. For example, he’s been at the heart of some incredible recruitment for them with signings such as Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson.
It’s previously been reported Edwards is on a three-man shortlist of candidates to become Chelsea’s new sporting director, along with Maxwell and Paul Mitchell.
The Blues are on the search for someone new following Marina Granovskaia’s exit, with co-owner currently filling in as interim sporting director.
Todd Boehly wants Michael Edwards
It seems like a smart footballing decision for Chelsea’s new active owner to target Edwards, who’s someone with a really impressive CV working within a big Premier League establishment. It remains to be seen if he can be tempted to West London, though.
The way Boehly has started during his short time at Stamford Bridge is going down well with plenty of the Blues fanbase.
It’s absolutely vital that the club get this next appointment correct. Meanwhile, there’s a lot of work that needs doing by those currently working at the club to get important transfers over the line.
