Saul Niguez is reportedly starting to win over Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel with his performances in training.

According to the Evening Standard, the 26-year-old is “close” to forcing his way back into contention.

The report explains Blues manager Tuchel is “increasingly encouraged” by his training displays, so fans may get to see him back on the pitch soon.

He’s taking time adapting to the pace and power of the English game, which is no surprise given his senior career has been spent in Spain.

The left-footed central midfielder moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid, albeit there is a £30million option to make the deal permanent.

Saul can bounce back from slow Chelsea start

Of course, Saul would’ve hoped for a much better introduction to English football than he’s had.

However, he’s someone that was performing as one of Europe’s top midfielders only a few years ago with Spanish giants Atletico.

He’s not featured in the Premier League since a poor debut that saw him hooked at half time. In addition, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley have even featured ahead of him in recent fixtures to suggest they’ve moved up the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Saul is definitely someone that can go under the radar, though, to get into the team again.

Do Blues have best midfield depth in Premier League?

Short answer, yes.

N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic are all outstanding midfielders.

You can add into the mix Saul, Loftus-Cheek and Barkley to make it six senior midfield options within the squad that have all played at a top level.

It’s a department that perhaps only Manchester City or Liverpool could even try to rival.
