Reports have claimed that supporters at Stamford Bridge ironically cheered when Raheem Sterling was substituted for Chelsea against Brighton at the weekend.

According to Mail Online, some even left their seats to vent their anger when the England international reached the bench.

It was another tough afternoon for Sterling in what has turned out to so far be a nightmare transfer.

The 28-year-old started in a much-changed front three alongside Mykhailo Mudryk and Christian Pulisic.

While the Ukrainian impressed throughout, the former Manchester City man again struggled to get into the game, having very few touches of the ball.

This was just one of many factors which saw Chelsea sink to a 2-1 defeat against a far-stronger Brighton on the day.

The performance was not too dissimilar to the one he put in against Real Madrid last week in the biggest game of the season for the Blues.

Starting up front with Joao Felix, Sterling again didn’t influence the game, leaving supporters frustrated and wondering what impact he is supposed to be having on the squad.

There will be many fans that will be hopeful he doesn’t start in tomorrow’s last-chance game in the Champions League. The competition holds their only hopes of rescuing anything from what has been a dire campaign in all.

Plenty will be hoping that Mudryk starts instead of Sterling at Stamford Bridge, with the January addition’s opportunities being short to come by.

However, his positive display against Brighton showed he certainly has the capabilities to affect a game, and his pace could play a big part.

Frank Lampard will need to be brave with his team selection to see a turnaround, and including Mudryk in his starting side will certainly be a sign of that.
