Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel praised the attacking partnership between Kai Havertz and Mason Mount ahead of Sunday’s clash with Newcastle United.

Mount has had the most Premier League minutes among Chelsea attackers this season, and it is pretty obvious that Tuchel relies on him heavily.

Havertz, on the other hand, is Chelsea’s most in-form forward, having scored five goals and registered an assist in his last six appearances.

But what they offer as individuals is not the only reason Tuchel has fielded them both together in three of their last four games.

“The thing is they like to play with each other and they’re good together,” the German told Chelsea TV.

“They’re top guys, top players, and nice characters. So, it’s pleasure to have them. and it’s good to see that they’re decisive and want to improve their game on a daily basis.

“That’s why they’re here.”

Havertz’s fine goalscoring form, in particular, pleases Tuchel.

“He’s stepped up in his game,” Tuchel said about the Germany international.

“And it’s nice to see that he’s decisive and he can score because it gives him certain confidence which is what you need as a striker.

“He’s in a good place right now and hopefully he keeps on fighting.”

Both Mount and Havertz started their career as number 8s and have since become two versatile players who thrive in tight space.

The former’s work rate off the ball is certainly one of the reasons why he is one of the first names on Tuchel’s team sheet.

Meanwhile, Havertz’s instinct and ability to find space have proved decisive, especially when playing against teams that sit deep.
