Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel indicated that Mason Mount may not play full 90 minutes against Burnley on Saturday since he is still suffering from a tooth infection.
Tuchel has confirmed that the 22-year-old is back in contention to play, having previously missed the last two games due to illness.
His return will of course be a big help, given Chelsea are still without their striker pair Romelu Lukaku, who seems to have started doing some light exercises, and Timo Werner.
However, Tuchel admitted he is unsure whether Mount will be able to play from the start at the weekend.
“It’s a tricky one,” the German said about Mount’s illness during his press conference on Friday.
“The illness was from a wisdom tooth infection. He was back in training yesterday and has lost a bit of weight
“He cannot eat properly, and he’s taking medication.
“So let’s see. He’s in the squad for tomorrow, [maybe he can] play some minutes, but we will have to wait if there is a reaction.
“A proper treatment has to be done.”
Mount could miss England duty to receive treatment despite Chelsea support
Having a treatment could affect Mount’s availability for next week’s international break. But Tuchel insisted that the midfielder’s health should be the priority.
“I expect him to if everything is OK,” he responded when asked whether he expects Mount to join the England squad.
“But the tendency is that [he needs] a proper treatment for his wisdom tooth.
“Maybe he will be out or join the England squad a bit later. We will always push and encourage him.
“There is no doubt that we are proud when he is selected, so there is no tactic behind the back that we try to manage to keep Mason here.
“It’s the opposite. But we have full responsibility for his health.
