Trevoh Chalobah says Chelsea teammate's 'harsh words' help him develop

Trevoh Chalobah said he has learned a lot from Chelsea teammates Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva despite the former’s stern approach when giving him advice.

The 22-year-old, who has just signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract with Chelsea, has proved to be an important member of Thomas Tuchel’s squad this season.

While Chalobah has not cemented his spot as a regular starter yet, Thomas Tuchel still relies on him a lot when making team rotations.

One of the reasons behind Chalobah’s quick adjustment at Chelsea, according to the defender himself, is having experienced players to look up to in the team.

Chalobah said he is thankful that Rudiger, in particular, is very stern with him.

“I’ve learned a lot [from Rudiger and Silva],” the young defender told Chelsea TV.

“When I first came Rudiger was the one that looked after me, he always believed in me as well.

“It’s nice to be playing with him, he’s always talking to me.

“He’s always giving me harsh words as well, but it’s needed for a young player like me, that’s how I’m going to develop.

“Obviously to play with Thiago, he’s one of the best centre-backs in the world I think. I’ve always looked up to him from when I was younger as well.

“To then share the changing room, share the pitch with him, it’s amazing.

“It’s good to learn from players like those two who have played a lot of games in football.”

Chalobah might eventually become first-choice right centre-back at Chelsea

Chalobah further said that his goal at the moment is to play as many games as possible for the Blues.

He mainly plays on the right of the back three under Tuchel while versatile enough to play in various defensive and even midfield positions.

As it stands, Cesar Azpilicueta is still the first-choice option for this role. But given his age, Chelsea will soon need an heir and so far, Chalobah has proved to be as reliable as the captain.
