Tuchel confirms Chelsea player has not asked to leave Stamford Bridge this summer

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has reacted to reports in Germany that Timo Werner is pushing to leave the club this summer.

Sky Germany reported on Friday that Werner’s Chelsea departure is now more likely due to his “difficult relationship” with Tuchel.

The report highlighted the 26-year-old’s interview with The Times, in which he admitted that he “wants to play” and “could be happy” to do so “everywhere”, especially ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

When asked about the Germany international’s comments, Tuchel was rather “surprised”.

“I would be very happy as a young guy having a contract at Chelsea Football Club,” the manager insisted.

According to Sky Germany, Werner, who has had interest from other clubs, is unlikely to work with Tuchel for much longer.

The former RB Leipzig man made just 15 starts (21 appearances in total) in the Premier League last season and is understandably not satisfied with his limited role in the team.

On the other hand, his four goals and one assist in the competition were clearly not enough to convince the manager, who tends to rotate his front line instead.

So, is Werner really close to Chelsea exit this summer? Tuchel believes otherwise.

“I don’t think so, I don’t know about it,” said the manager when asked about Werner’s potential departure (via Hayters TV).

“Timo has not talked to me about it. I think he wants to make his way at Chelsea, and he is still to prove a point.”

Raheem Sterling’s arrival this summer may have an impact on Werner’s role in the team, but it is also the case with Romelu Lukaku’s loan move to Inter Milan.

Even if the forward were to personally ask for a move, Tuchel would likely want to secure a replacement before approving any potential deal.
