Tuchel reacts to Chelsea star's agent wanting to talk to new club owner over summer exit
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has responded to the comments of Romelu Lukaku’s agent over his client’s potential summer exit.
Thanks to his recent goalscoring form, three goals in the last two games, Lukaku will likely start in Saturday’s FA Cup final against Liverpool.
He may still end the season on a high, but so far his season has fallen short of expectations for a club-record signing.
His agent, Federico Pastorello, recently hinted at his client’s potential departure amid uncertainty over Chelsea’s ownership.
“We cannot think about negotiations,” the agent told Italian publication La Repubblica.
“Chelsea are in takeover discussions, we do not know the new owners, let alone if we can open talks with Inter or AC Milan.
“We have to wait.”
The interview, apparently, came as a surprise to Tuchel, who was not very happy with possible distractions ahead of such a big game.
“The tension is so high that sometimes it attracts situations that you don’t want to have before big matches but that’s the way it is,” the German said in his press conference on Friday.
“If he plans to talk to the owner, maybe it is his plan not to talk with me.
“Fair enough, let’s see if he gets a meeting and can get to talk. It is his right.
“We will talk to anybody and evaluate any situation of any player including Romelu’s, and then we will see what’s going to happen and what the plans are.”
From Chelsea’s point of view, selling Lukaku this summer would likely come at a cost. Finding a club willing to pay most of what they paid Inter last summer just seems improbable.
Obviously, keeping an unhappy player is not ideal, either.
The club’s summer transfer policy will soon be clear as the consortium led by Todd Boehly is expected to officially acquire the club by the end of this month.
Lukaku himself does not seem happy with the agent’s comments.
