'Unbelievable': Rio Ferdinand wowed by Chelsea star who is causing Tuchel a transfer headache
Rio Ferdinand showed great appreciation towards Trevoh Chalobah’s recent performances for Chelsea.
Speaking on his Five YouTube channel, Ferdinand had to mention the man who is on the lips of every Blues supporter right now.
Chalobah is currently basking in his moment of glory, following two fine outings for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
He handled the Super Cup final pressure admirably, especially considering it was his senior Chelsea debut.
Playing in front of a packed-out Stamford Bridge on the Premier League’s opening weekend didn’t seem to bother him either.
The 22-year-old struck a sweet strike against Crystal Palace to round off the week of all weeks for a player in the making.
Ferdinand a fan
Ferdinand had been keeping a close eye on Chalobah over the past pair of fixtures and certainly appreciated what he saw.
“The big thing for me is Trevoh Chalobah,” said the former Manchester United centre-back.
“I watched him in the Super Cup game the other day with BT in Belfast. Massively impressed with him, the way he defended.
“He had three or four big moments defensively where he pulled the hat out of the bag, it was unbelievable.
“And he comes up with a goal on the weekend. To see the emotion of a young player crying like that just reinforces that it’s a beautiful game still.”
Do Chelsea pick Chalobah or Kounde?
It really doesn’t get better than scoring for your boyhood club, in front of a full stadium signing your name.
For Chalobah, that dream became a reality on Saturday.
However, he could be struck down with the harsh truth that not all fantasies last forever.
According to the Guardian, the versatile defender might still be sent away on loan before the transfer window closes.
Chelsea reportedly remain interested in Sevilla’s Jules Kounde but are possibly now considering their options following Chalobah’s emergence.
Do they fork out a considerable fee to sign Kounde, who is evidently very talented, or save their cash and rely on those already in Tuchel’s squad?
If Chalobah starts on Sunday away to Arsenal, then it seems unfathomable he would be allowed to leave this summer.
Which then incurs the question: will there be space for Kounde in the team?
Tough decisions lie ahead for the Chelsea chain of command.
