Despite a number of his teammates leaving to join Europe’s elite, Hakim Ziyech is still with Ajax, and still performing incredibly. After making a name for himself in the Champions League run last season, he has only gotten better. Here is why Ziyech should be top of Chelsea’s transfer list if the ban is lifted.
Last season, the Moroccan recorded 16 goals and 13 assists in 29 league appearances for the Dutch side. That works out as a goal contribution every game, and just two assists behind Eden Hazard’s total last season with the Blues.
He also scored three goals and provided three assists in 11 Champions League appearances, and was a key part of Ajax’s incredible run to the semi-finals.
This season, Ziyech has scored five goals in 14 league games and contributed a ridiculous 11 assists. In addition to this, he has two goals and four assists in five Champions League games.
His free-kicks and deliveries from dead balls create a huge number of goalscoring chances for his teammates. Chelsea were victims of this when a Ziyech free-kick ricocheted off the post and into Kepa’s face before ending up in the back of the net in the crazy 4-4 draw with Ajax.
Despite Willian’s upturn in form this season, his lack of goals is still a concern for Chelsea fans. Ziyech would certainly solve this issue. He would remove some of the goalscoring burdens from Abraham and the Blues would not be so reliant on the youngster.
Rumours of a £25m buy-out clause last summer seem to have died down after the Moroccan decided against a move. However, football changes quickly. If Chelsea can make moves in January, they should certainly consider enquiring over Ziyech.
