Pundit Jamie O’Hara has claimed he cannot believe Chelsea have not hired Julian Nagelsmann right now.

He told TalkSPORT that he is shocked that the Blues are set to end up with Frank Lampard at the helm despite the quality of manager currently available on the market.

Chelsea are reportedly about to announce the return of their club legend for his second spell in charge of the club.

He is going to be in charge for the remainder of this season as the owners extensively decide who is the right candidate to take them further starting from this summer.

Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have emerged as the favourites for the permanent job. The Spaniard even travelled to London yesterday after impressing in initial talks.

O’Hara stunned by Lampard appointment

O’Hara however cannot believe that Todd Boehly and co are not looking to make one of these appointments now, ahead of the big Champions League game against Real Madrid.

He said: “It’s Chelsea Football Club. Pick a manager, go and get him. You’ve done it since the billion pound owners came in. Chelsea get the best manager.

“There’s actually three top managers available right now. Three. And Chelsea have got Lampard. Why not get a manager now? Why is Enrique not coming in? Why is Nagelsmann not coming in? You’ve got Real Madrid next week. It’s a no brainer. You’ve got nothing to lose in the Premier League and everything to gain in the Champions League. Why would you wait?”

With Nagelsmann widely expected to want his next job to wait until the end of the season, it suggests the club are favouring him as the ideal candidate to take it permanently.

However, the next few weeks will be big in ensuring the Blues have the ability to return where they belong at the top of the table.
