‘Will come with time’: Antonio Rudiger confidently gets behind £150k-a-week Chelsea teammate

Antonio Rudiger has got behind Chelsea teammate Kai Havertz by explaining he’s going to mature with time.

Rudiger, 28, has claimed it’s up to the Blues squad to lift a player in Havertz that is still trying to find his most consistent form.

The 22-year-old forward has three goals in 13 appearances this season, but the pressure is on him right now to step up in the absence of injured duo Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

Rudiger has been discussing fellow Germany international Havertz:

“Life is a rollercoaster. One day you can be down there, the next you are King Kai. He is very young. The maturity will come with time. In football time is rare, but we have to lift him,” Rudiger said

Havertz still a mystery to some Chelsea fans

Of course, Havertz enjoyed a fairytale first year at Stamford Bridge by scoring the winner in a Champions League final.

It’s obvious that has helped bide him some time, but during his second season in English football he’s got to start justifying his £71million price tag.

The £150,000-a-week attacker has exquisite technique with the ball at his feet. Also, his movement and speed around the box is underrated. He’s now in a position, though, where he’s got to start delivering more goal contributions.

If you consider all the attacking talent in Thomas Tuchel’s squad, surely you’ve got to be impact games regularly to stick in the starting line-up.

Blues manager Tuchel recently claimed Havertz is no longer in the “adjustment phase”, so it’s going to be intriguing to see how he reacts in games to this.

The fact he’s still only 22 means he’s got a lot of developing to do, though.

Watch out Newcastle

Chelsea travel to St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon to face Newcastle United in the Premier League.

For Havertz, it looks like being another opportunity to lead the line.

He needs to make a statement after surprisingly failing to score in the 7-0 demolition of Norwich City last weekend, albeit he scored in midweek during the cup tie against Southampton.
