‘World class’: Chalobah loves playing with Chelsea teammate he used to watch clips of
Trevoh Chalobah has explained why he loves playing alongside Chelsea teammate Thiago Silva, who’s someone he’s looked up to over the years.
Chalobah has worked his way into the senior Blues squad at Stamford Bridge this year. As a result, the 22-year-old defender is getting to train and play alongside some top centre-halves.
The young centre-back is another product from the academy at Cobham and has barely put a foot wrong during his brief senior career at Chelsea
Chalobah says it’s an “honour” getting to play with “world class” Brazil international Silva.
The 37-year-old centre-back has been performing at the top level for well over a decade, so is such a great role model for every player in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.
“I look up to Thiago a lot,” Chalobah told talkSPORT.
“I used to watch a lot of clips of him when I was younger, how calm, how composed he is, aspects of his game I can learn in training.
“Obviously there is a language barrier as he doesn’t speak much English but watching him in training is enough for me to learn.
“It’s an honour sharing a pitch with a world class player like him.”
Thiago Silva has exceeded all exceptions at Chelsea
Of course, Chelsea knew they were getting one of the top defenders of recent times when they signed Silva on a free transfer in August 2020.
However, most accepted he’s in the latter stages of his career and plenty predicted the pace of the Premier League would prove too much.
The South American colossus has defied all expectations.
His leadership within the group is so apparent and the likes of Chalobah are so lucky to have him as a mentor.
No signs of slowing down
Silva is ageing like a fine wine even at 37.
Micah Richards claimed earlier this season he’s still one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
Tuchel’s man-management of him must be applauded because he knows he’s got to be careful with his workload so he can always have him available for crunch fixtures.
