20-year-old Chelsea loanee’s fortunes could be about to change after huge news yesterday

So far, loan spells for Chelsea players have tended to range from the sublime to the ridiculous.

The likes of Angelo Gabriel seem to have stories every week reporting just how well he is playing in France for Strasbourg.

However, there have been some who will certainly feel as if they are now not getting the best out of their time away from Stamford Bridge.

One of these is certainly Andrey Santos. He has hardly seen the pitch for Premier League side Nottingham Forest this week.

However, one player who has played but not had any joy is David Datro Fofana. The loan to Union Berlin looked a really strong one on paper.

The Bundesliga side are competing in the Champions League this year, and regular gametime on offer made it an extremely interesting proposal.

Things have not worked out as planned though. Union Berlin sit bottom of the table after more than a third of the campaign.

Fofana’s fortunes could change

While his prospects may have been looking bleak, they could have now taken a turn for the better after news yesterday.

Urs Fischer, who led the side to their successes last season, has been sacked following their dismal campaign so far.

Fofana had certainly had his issues with the manager during his loan spell. He blanked him after being substituted earlier this season, seeing him suspended for a week.

A return to form for Union Berlin could see Fofana rescue something out of the loan there, and therefore look to put his name in the hat at Stamford Bridge for next season.

He would certainly need to have a drastic return for the remainder of the season to stop Chelsea looking elsewhere in the summer for a striker, with there currently being strong links to Victor Osimhen from Napoli.
