£32m Chelsea player is turning out to be the signing everyone thought Christopher Nkunku would be

Much was expected of Christopher Nkunku after he joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig.

Christopher Nkunku arrived at Chelsea for big money, signing in a £52m deal, and had a brilliant goal record in Germany.

In 172 appearances for Leipzig, the Frenchman scored 70 goals. At Chelsea, he has not been able to show the form he displayed in the Bundesliga.

That has largely been down to injuries. A fully fit Nkunku could show everyone what he is really about next season.

Right now, though, Nicolas Jackson is the forward Mauricio Pochettino is heavily relying on, and the 22-year-old is now starting to look like the signing Chelsea supporters were expecting Nkunku to be.

Nicolas Jackson starting to impress at Chelsea

Things have not always been easy for Jackson at Stamford Bridge. Earlier in the season, he came in for a lot of criticism.

However, the Senegal international has looked really sharp of late. He scored a very clever flick against Newcastle United last time out, which is the kind of thing Chelsea fans thought they would be seeing from Nkunku after his exploits at Leipzig.

Four out of the 12 goals he has registered for the Blues this term have also come in big games.

Jackson netted a hat-trick against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur back in November before punishing Manchester City the match after.

It is not bad for a 22-year-old who is playing in the Premier League for the first time.

Jackson has also shown the kind of attacking versatility that Nkunku has, playing not just up front, but also on the left flank.

He has not been a terrible dribbler either, completing 1.2 dribbles per league game this season, which is the third-highest average in Chelsea’s squad (WhoScored).

The former Villarreal man can beat defenders, which makes him quite an exciting forward to watch.

Ultimately, Jackson has brought the kind of excitement to Stamford Bridge that Nkunku was meant to and for just £32m. Nkunku is still a quality attacker, however, and if he can stay fit next season while Jackson continues to improve, the Blues should have a much better campaign compared to this one.
