Enzo Maresca has seemed to get the best out of a number of his Chelsea players since taking over as manager at the start of this season.
The clear candidate for this is Moises Caicedo, who has emerged as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League this season.
Chelsea fans were wowed by Caicedo’s performance against Arsenal at the weekend, with him proving a point up against former transfer target Declan Rice.
It was a far more quiet afternoon for Cole Palmer, which is always more noticeable based on the exceptionally high standards he has set since his move to Stamford Bridge.
Marc Cucurella undroppable now for Chelsea
In terms of top performers against the Gunners though, there were perhaps no better than Marc Cucurella on his return to the Premier League side.
The Spaniard had been absent from the starting side for the last three league games, after serving a supsension for picking up too many yellow cards already this season.
Up against one of the best wingers in the world in Bukayo Saka, Cucurella was a rock in defence, allowing fellow full-back Malo Gusto to pick up attacking posititions.
Despite the experiment of starting two right-backs in his starting side recently, Maresca now has to see Cucurella as an undroppable member of his side.
Chelsea hoping Reece James can pick up attacking responsibilities soon
Having a naturally left-footed player in his ranks is always a boost, and his defensive capabilities allows him to fill into a back three naturally against some of the opponents the Blues expect to control the game against.
Chelsea will no doubt be hoping that after the international break, Reece James will be closer to being able to occupy the attacking positions that Gusto has been picking up in recent games.
The Frenchman had arguably the best opportunity to score outside of Pedro Neto’s goal, and you can’t help but think the result may have been different had it been James on the end of the first half cross.
