Chelsea secured their eighth win in 10 games with a 1-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday afternoon. A free-kick from Marcos Alonso was the only goal of the game as the Blues ran out as victors at Stamford Bridge. The win keeps Antonio Conte’s side in third place in the Premier League, and Chelsea’s next fixture is a Carabao Cup tie at home to Bournemouth. Here is how the Chelsea players rated in the 1-0 win over Southampton.

Thibaut Courtois – 7

Untroubled for large spells of the game, but saved well from substitute Charlie Austin on a couple of occasions. The Belgian was always alert.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 7

Was perhaps at blame for Austin’s first chance, but otherwise, it was a typical performance from the Spaniard. Dependable and solid as ever.

Andreas Christensen – 7

Continues to impress in the heart of the back three. Composed and good on the ball, Chelsea definitely have a gem in the Dane.

Gary Cahill – 7

Did what was expected of him, a good and solid defensive performance from Chelsea. The captain played his part well.

Victor Moses – 6

Got forward well and defended strongly against the likes of Nathan Redmon and Ryan Bertrand. Looks sharper than he has done in recent weeks.

N’Golo Kante – 7

Typical performance from Kante. Effective as ever, winning the ball back and chasing it everywhere on the pitch. Forced a good save from Fraser Forster.

Tiemoue Bakayoko – 7

Reliable on the ball and covered a lot of ground, the Frenchman has bounced back from recent criticism over his performances.

Marcos Alonso – 9

The match-winner in the end with a superb free-kick. Alonso was great on the left-hand side, and could’ve had another if it weren’t for Forster who saved his volley.

Pedro – 8

A great game from Pedro. Hit the post in the first half, and was always a willing runner during the game which made him stand out.

Eden Hazard – 7

Worked hard as Chelsea’s number nine, like against Huddersfield. Often the Blues’ main man going forward. Had a goal ruled out for offside.

Willian – 8

Lively and energetic from the start of the game. Perhaps unlucky not to score but a good performance from the Brazilian.

Substitutes

Cesc Fabregas – 6

Brought on in the second half and played well. Assisted Hazard, but was offside when he played the ball, so the goal was correctly ruled out.

Alvaro Morata – 6

Made good runs after coming on, and forced a good save from Forster late on.

Davide Zappacosta – N/A

A late substitute, didn’t have time to influence the game.
