Chelsea already have their perfect Ross Barkley replacement in their squad if he leaves in January - TCC View
If Chelsea decide to offload Ross Barkley in January, they already have the perfect replacement.
Harvey Vale, who’s a rising star in the Blues academy, should be on red alert after today’s transfer speculation.
TEAMtalk reports on Wednesday that Chelsea are currently deciding whether or not to let Barkley leave when the January transfer window opens.
It is understood the Newcastle United are leading the potential chase for the 27-year-old’s signature. Also, Premier League rivals Leeds United and Everton are interested in a loan swoop with the option to buy.
The report claims the attacking midfielder still believes he can get himself back into international contention in time for next year’s World Cup. The 33-cap England international hasn’t represented his country since 2019, though.
Chris Sutton hailed Barkley back in October. Similarly, his manager Thomas Tuchel’s praised him during this season. It must be admitted that he’s underwhelmed since he joined from Everton over three years ago.
Vale can fill Barkley spot at Chelsea
For Barkley, he’s very much part of Tuchel’s group this season as a squad option. He’s made eight first-team appearances across all competitions this season. However, only two have them have come from the start and he’s yet to complete 90 minutes.
Vale, 18, is someone yet to make his senior debut and you must be careful when overhyping young players.
Chelsea’s success of bringing through academy players in recent years, though, is impeccable.
The teenage Blues prospect would make for a brilliant Barkley replacement for the rest of the 2021/22 season, as someone that can provide squad depth at Stamford Bridge behind an array of talent.
He’s looked exceptional so far this season in the Under-23s, which is why many feel his long-term future may be as a key player in the Chelsea senior ranks.
Barkley’s sale would be the perfect opportunity to integrate him fully into the first-team group and give him his first handful of games.
What kind of player is he?
Vale is a superb left-footed youngster that can excel in attacking positions either side of a forward. Also, Tuchel will be pleased to see he can provide cover at wing-back if needed, too.
He’s already featured in Chelsea’s match day squad during the recent Champions League win against Malmo, albeit he’s yet to get his debut.
Chelsea’s trust in their academy has served them so well in recent years and that’s why they should have faith in promoting Vale to cover Barkley’s potential sale.
In fairness, Vale looks destined for senior football. This could be a great time for him to bed in.
