Callum Hudson-Odoi has certainly had to be patient so far this season at Chelsea, but he’s now in a position where he should be knocking on the door of manager Frank Lampard asking for some regular minutes.
Aged 20, Hudson-Odoi is a talented attacker that has been heavily discussed by the Blues fanbase for the past few years and he’s remarkably now made 75 senior appearances for the club since coming through the academy.
He is a skilful winger blessed with lightning speed and is a traditional wide player in the sense that he loves one-on-one scenarios with full-backs.
With so much firepower in the Chelsea squad, the English youngster has mainly been made to watch from the bench domestically this season.
But he’s made a brilliant impact in the two recent matches and has surely given himself so leverage to try demand some more game time.
Hudson-Odoi has only started two Premier League matches all season, but one was on Monday night during the 1-1 draw at home to Aston Vila.
The energetic right-winger was a real bright spark for Chelsea whenever he was in possession and was constantly looking an attacking threat, with a couple of decent deliveries into the box.
He made an excellent substitute appearance the game before in the defeat to Arsenal, where he was one of the few individuals that showed real personality on the ball and he assisted a late consolation goal from Tammy Abraham.
With Hakim Ziyech closing in an injury return, the competition for the wide roles will soon be cranked up.
But right now Hudson-Odoi deserves to be in possession of a starting shirt for the way he’s injecting some life into a team struggling for form and now is his chance to really try establish himself.
He’s showed in glimpses he can be a world-beater and he should now be desperate to try prove to Lampard how much he’s developed, as well as finding some real consistency to his game.
