Chelsea’s transfer business under Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali has received a lot of criticism.
Many have questioned Chelsea’s decision not to sign experienced players, with the club’s current transfer strategy being based around recruiting young footballers with exceptional potential.
The Blues have also been criticised for some of the stars they have let go.
Who is Chelsea’s best winger?
For example, last September, former Premier League goalkeeper Shay Given called out Chelsea after they sold Noni Madueke to London rivals Arsenal.

Noni Madueke hasn’t scored in the Premier League since last January
As of now, Chelsea will have no regrets about selling Madueke. The winger is certainly a talented player, and you can see that from his dribbling numbers.
According to WhoScored, Madueke is currently completing 1.2 dribbles per game in the Premier League, which is the second-highest average in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
However, for everything that has been said about Chelsea’s decision to sell Madueke, the 23-year-old has not scored a goal in the Premier League since his former side’s 3-1 loss to Manchester City on 25 January 2025.
It means that Madueke has not found the back of the net in an English top-flight match for more than a year.
When you consider that, Chelsea will be quite pleased that they got around £50m for Madueke while replacing him with Estevao Willian.
Unlike Madueke, Estevao has managed to score in the Premier League this season, including in his team’s recent 3-1 win against Crystal Palace.

Pat Nevin also questioned Chelsea’s sale of Madueke, but sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley will feel that they made the right call.

Noni Madueke’s full stats this season
Madueke has failed to score in the Premier League for Arsenal despite making 14 appearances.
However, the England international has at least been able to net a few times in the Champions League. So has Estevao, though, who has a much higher ceiling than the man he has replaced.
In total, Madueke has scored three goals in 19 games across all competitions this term. If you are an Arsenal supporter, you would have expected a bit more from the former PSV Eindhoven star.
