The whole football world knows Chelsea’s owners and sporting directors have made some massive errors since taking charge of the club.
The appointment of Liam Rosenior as manager may just be the worst, with the 41-year-old sacked less than four months in charge.
It is not just on the manager front where Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital have got things wrong, though.
They have also made some big mistakes in the transfer window, including not signing a new goalkeeper last summer. However, sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley could be about to be handed a golden opportunity to rectify their blunder.

Chelsea could get another opportunity to sign Mike Maignan
Before the start of the 2025/26 season, Chelsea had the chance to sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan, with the Frenchman having just a year remaining on his contract.
The Blues penny-pinched, though, and Maignan remained at the San Siro before extending his contract.
However, despite signing a new deal, Maignan’s future is up in the air again. According to Corriere dello Sport, following the sackings of manager Massimiliano Allegri and sporting director Igli Tare, the 30-year-old is no longer convinced about remaining at Milan.
It means Chelsea could now get another opportunity to sign Maignan, and if the club do, they have to take it this time.

Robert Sanchez is a good shot-stopper, but he is too inconsistent and showed that last season with some of the mistakes he made.
In contrast, Maignan has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers over the past five years or so.

Chelsea are being linked with other goalkeepers such as Sunderland’s Robin Roefs. It has been reported that Chelsea are keen on Roefs and could even be willing to send Mike Penders to their Premier League rivals on loan to make a deal happen.
Maignan is the more proven No.1, though, and is one of the best goalies in the world. It is why Chelsea’s decision not to sign him last summer was such a huge error. Now is the time for them to correct it.
