Chelsea have to sign 20-year-old striker if they miss out on Osimhen after release clause revelation

Chelsea look really eager to bring Napoli striker Victor Osimhen to Stamford Bridge this year.

Victor Osimhen is a key target for Chelsea, but signing him will not be simple.

He recently put pen to paper on a new contract, which possesses a £112m release clause, according to the Evening Standard.

If Chelsea do not want to pay that or end up missing out on Osimhen for whatever reason, who else could they turn to? The answer is RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Benjamin Sesko has a release clause

Sky Germany journalist Philipp Hinze recently revealed on X that Sesko has a €50m (£43m) release clause in his contract, which becomes active in the summer.

Honestly, at that price and with the potential he has, the 20-year-old could end up being a bargain.

Sesko has not been too prolific in the Bundesliga this season, scoring just three goals in 15 outings. However, he has netted a couple of times in the Champions League and has been compared to Erling Haaland.

Standing at 6 ft 4, the Slovenian has the height of a Premier League centre-forward and still has plenty of time to develop into a more prolific No.9.

Victor Osimhen should still be Chelsea’s priority

A more experienced and proven striker like Osimhen still needs to be Chelsea’s main target in the summer.

The Blues already have 22-year-old Nicolas Jackson who has shown a lot of rawness this season. He has scored goals but has also missed a lot of chances.

Again, though, if Chelsea cannot land an Osimhen or an Ivan Toney, for example, Sesko does not look like he would be the worst alternative.

Ideally, Mauricio Pochettino would want someone with Osimhen’s track record, but it is a really tough striker market, so Sesko is a name that has to be considered.
