There has been plenty of praise handed Noni Madueke’s way since he left Chelsea for Arsenal, however the club should feel justified in their decision to part ways with the winger.
Madueke decided to leave the club when the Gunners registered interest in signing him, with him departing the Blues just hours before their Club World Cup final against PSG.
Since his move, he has been complimented greatly for his performances. Pat Nevin is not convinced selling Madueke was good business for Chelsea.
Shay Given thinks Alejandro Garnacho is not an upgrade on Madueke either, although the England international’s most recent outing should not leave the Blues with a great deal of regret.
Why Chelsea made the right call to get rid of Noni Madueke
He started on the right-wing ahead of a returning Bukayo Saka against Manchester City, however Arsenal’s team display did not kick into gear until after he was replaced at the break.
During his 45 minutes on the pitch, Madueke completed zero of his attempted dribbles, whilst also losing all five of his duels.
He was up against former Chelsea transfer target Nico O’Reilly, and struggled greatly to make any real impact on the game.
The Blues spent big money on new wingers over the summer, however Enzo Maresca has yet to utilise the majority of them.
The standout performer so far has been Estevao Willian, however this comes as a surprise to few after how much was expected of him upon his arrival.
Chelsea’s Madueke replacements waiting to make their mark
As well as Estevao, Jamie Gittens and Garnacho have both been brought in to provide quality and competition on the wings.
The former Manchester United man is waiting in the wings for his first meaningful minutes since joining his new club, however Garnacho’s debut was criticised after he lost his man from a long Brentford throw-in that resulted in a late equaliser.
Gittens is also waiting for his Chelsea career to kick into gear, with him not impressing in the starts he has made since joining from Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea fans have criticised Gittens for his performance levels, and it seems he is needing some time to adjust to Premier League football.
