One player who was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea earlier this summer now looks set to line up against them next season.

The Blues were very keen to sign Hugo Ekitike straight after a deal was confirmed to bring in Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.

It was even reported that Chelsea had agreed personal terms with Ekitike, however he is now set for a move to Liverpool as their transformation takes yet another step in the right direction.

The Reds have already added Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, and look the favourites to retain their Premier League title.

Alan Shearer has tipped Chelsea for a title challenge, but the majority may believe it is a season too soon for Enzo Maresca’s side to put up a genuine fight.

Liverpool signing Hugo Ekitike may clear path for Chelsea to sign Alexander Isak

There are some that believe that a superstar name could be the difference between mounting a serious push, with someone like Alexander Isak at the top of their list.

Chelsea have been firmly linked with signing Isak if he was to depart Newcastle, however Liverpool were seen as the favourites for his signature.

However, the addition of Ekitike could see one of their biggest rivals for a deal decide they are well stocked for options in attack, clearing the path somewhat for the signing.

The deal is going to be more likely next summer, with the Blues already adding Joao Pedro and Liam Delap to their ranks this summer.

‘World-class’ Alexander Isak’s exceptional goalscoring stats

Alan Shearer has said that Isak has joined the group of ‘world-class’ Premier League players, and it is clear why Chelsea are keen to sign him.

The Swede combined for 29 goals and assists last season, a figure far higher than any striker currently at Stamford Bridge managed.

Maresca has previously stated that he would prefer a number of players to regularly chip in with goals instead of relying on one player to be up there with the top scorers in the league.

However, it is hard to imagine an attack which features both Isak and Palmer would not be seen as the best in the Premier League, and give Chelsea the boost they need in front of goal.
