Chelsea signing £40m winger makes more sense than club’s purchase of Joao Felix

Chelsea confirmed the signing of Joao Felix on Wednesday, with the forward returning to the club for a second spell.

It is a signing that will excite Chelsea supporters, as Joao Felix is quite a skilful and technical attacker.

This time, the club also have Felix for good after buying the 24-year-old from Atletico Madrid instead of loaning him.

However, Chelsea bringing in another attacker whom they have recently been linked with makes way more sense than the Felix signing.

Chelsea could make move for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho

Even before Felix’s arrival, Chelsea were already stacked in the attacking positions. Enzo Maresca had Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling, who can all play in positions behind the striker.

Nevertheless, a report from The Athletic claimed that some at Manchester United believe Chelsea could make an approach for Jadon Sancho.

The winger would not cost too much either in this day and age, with the same outlet alleging that United want £40m for him.

It will be interesting to see if anything happens because it was claimed in June that Chelsea rejected the chance to sign Sancho.

Chelsea need a player closer to Jadon Sancho’s profile than Joao Felix’s

Again, Felix is obviously a talented forward and while he can play out wide, his best position is just behind the striker.

However, the likes of Palmer and Nkunku can easily operate in that role. Felix was not a necessary signing for Chelsea in a football sense, but the Blues obviously needed to buy him so that Atletico would have the funds to bring in Gallagher.

Rather, with Mudryk and Sterling not pulling up any trees on the left flank, another natural wide man like Sancho comes across as a more suitable option than Felix.

That being said, Chelsea have brought in Neto, while Sancho has not exactly found life in the Premier League easy either. He has only scored nine goals in the top flight for United since joining the club in 2021.

But just focusing on profile, Chelsea look like they need someone more like Sancho than Felix.
